Human Trafficking, Nail Art Studio Designs

Human Trafficking is a Modern Day Form of Slavery.

Every day on different social medias and in the news there are stories about human trafficking. It is no longer only in other countries, it’s right here in our backyards. I already know of friends and family who are supporters for raising hope and awareness for human trafficking and I read all of their posts that I see. It’s scary how big of a deal this really is and many people are not even aware it is happening. I’m here to help spread awareness and share more information about the modern day form on slavery – human trafficking.

Polaris is a leader in the global fight to eradicate modern slavery. Founded in 2002 by two seniors at Brown University who were inspired to start a non-profit organization that focuses on human trafficking. Human trafficking is multi billion dollar criminal industry that is trapping millions of people around the world, including here in the United States. Human traffickers are using violence, threats, deception, debt bondage and other manipulative tactics that force adults and children to engage in commercial sex or to provide labor or services against their will.

In 2004, only 4 states had made human trafficking a crime. Today, as of 2016 every state has laws against human trafficking and 127 anti-human trafficking laws have been passed. We are making a difference and the more support and knowledge we have the better. Congress is working to take the (TVPA) Trafficking Victim Protection Act to the next level show I have signed it and sent in a email to show my support. I will continue to take a stand and fight to end this horrible industry!

The International Labour Organization estimates that forced labor and human trafficking is a $150 billion dollar industry worldwide. In the last eight years, more than 27,000 cases of human trafficking have been reported to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC) hotline. Polaris continues to receive multiple reports and learns about cases that are increasing here in the United States every year. 30% of the victims in human trafficking originate here in the United States, that’s huge!

Here in the state of Florida from December 7th of 2007 to June 30th of 2016 over 7,500 calls have been made and over 2,000 cases have been reported. In only the first half of this year, 852 calls have been made and 265 human trafficking cases have been reported (total statistics date from 1/1/16 to 6/30/16). That is just over a half a year. These statistics are based off phone calls, emails and web forms. While the exact number of victims in the United States is unknown, an estimate reaches into the hundreds of thousands of victims nationally, both adults and children in sex trafficking and labor trafficking. In order to fight against human trafficking we must continue to spread the word, share our knowledge and stand against these crimes!

Why is this so important to me?! That’s simple, and I’ll tell you.

My boyfriend and I had a cart that we ran in a mall here in Florida, for more than half a year and by working there open to close every day, I was able to see a lot of people walk through with their children. To this day, I can’t believe how many of those parents didn’t seem to pay enough attention to their kids. There would be little ones walking in and out of stores alone, parents would be shopping and leave their strollers unattended. Honestly it scared me for the child and for the parent. More than once I would actually leave my cart unattended to help a child find their parent. All I could think of is that poor child being abducted, so I did all that I could to help. I would pull that child to my cart and make them stay with me till Security showed up to help or until we found their parent(s). Numerous times I would get the nastiest look but I would say your child couldn’t find you and I wasn’t going to let someone kidnap this poor little boy or girl. This makes me upset and turns my stomach inside out. From then I’ve decided I want to help raise awareness and stop human trafficking! I have been doing a lot of research here and there and I’m deciding to step up because it is getting closer and closer to home. We want to start a family in the next couple years and this scares the hell out of me!
