My Thankful Thursday at the U-pick Farm

This is a Thankful Thursday that is for sure. For the first time ever, I visited Favorite Farms, Inc. U-pick Farm in Dover, FL. I had the day off but Bruce didn’t so my mother and I took the trip to the farm for some really cheap but seriously fresh strawberries and one massive onion.

Right off the bat we drove in the back entrance. Whoops. We parked three different times and didn’t even grab the quart containers from the front entrance. Whoops. Luckily a lovely lady was getting ready to leave and gave us the containers she had so we got lucky. That won’t happen again.

I have never been to a farm to pick strawberries so I was intrigued with the whole process. Plus strawberries might be my favorite. There were tons and tons of aisles and it felt endless. I don’t even think we made it down more than four aisles each.

It was fun! A workout but fun! I bet there is a better way than always standing, bending, standing, squatting, bending. Lol! It was great to get the blood flowing, be out in the sun, and pick our own strawberries.

If you haven’t done something like this before and you ever get the chance, take it! It was way worth an hour drive. Nothing beat $.50/Quart. That’s only $5 for 10 Quarts or about 15 pounds.

It took us over an hour to clean cut and prep for freezing. I’m looking forward to making jams, smoothies, waffles, and enjoying the strawberries as they are!

Easy DIY Washi Tape Greeting Cards

While I’m on the whole washi tape kick, I thought why not make really cute holiday greeting cards that will be incredibly easy and quick to boot. My mom was just visiting this last weekend and we stopped at Michael’s to shop around for some other projects and although we didn’t find what we were looking for, we actually came across a great sale on washi tape. Perfect! Funny how you look for something specific and then walk out of a store with a bunch of different things not on your list. Oops, how did that happen?

So the washi tape sale… a box for 10 bucks… you can’t beat that. Over two dozen tape rolls of holiday designs in different lengths and thicknesses. It was a deal so my mom bought us one to share. I should have got a picture of it. Rats. Well next time.

These are some of the greeting cards I created with the new holiday tape and a couple of the rolls I already had.

Each card opens and you can write your note on the inside. Decide which orientation you want. I chose to have all mine in landscape mode where you open the card from top to bottom. That’s where you can change it up and have fun with it.

These greeting cards are super cute and sure to be a huge hit. With a few simple steps, washi tape, and card stock you can easily make your own versions. If you are a teacher or parent, these would be really neat projects to do with the kiddos!

As I mentioned in my other post Turn Your Ordinary Clipboard Into Extraordinary, you can get washi tape in a variety of stores, usually found the craft department. My favorite places to check are Target’s dollar deal section, the Dollar Tree, Walmart or Michael’s, JoAnn’s and Hobby Lobby – when they have washi tape on sale! Luckily all those stores are within 15 minutes of me. Hah! I have a slight addiction to washi tape so I have to refrain myself from running to the store multiple times a week. Washi tape seems to last a while so that is another plus.

Find this interesting? Follow my posts to keep up with my newest stuff! More projects coming your way.

Turn Your Ordinary Clipboard Into Extraordinary

I have a couple clipboards in my office and I got to thinking the other day, how can I easily transform my clipboard from boring to dramatic…? Duh! Washi tape! Decorative tape that doesn’t cost a lot and that you can get at a variety of stores in the craft department. Simple, easy to find and inexpensive!

What Do You Need?!?

  • Washi Tape or Decorative Tape
  • Boring Clipboard

20170312_150955blog

For this project I used 7 different tapes found at Michaels, the Dollar Tree and Walmart.

I didn’t start with a plan. There is no pattern and I didn’t actually like it until the very end, hah. BUT! I didn’t stop and remove any of the tape or question how it looked, I just went with it until it was finished. Then I loved it!

20170312_153051blog

Walmart had a handful of designs at a low price, like maybe $.50 which is so cheap! I’m a huge holographic fan and this crazy roll caught my attention immediately. Too bad you can’t see it in person because it is way cooler than what these pictures show.

I spent the whole gloomy day working on DIY washi tape crafts and projects and I can’t wait to get all the photos together to share with you. Have any crafts using washi tape that you’d like to share with us?

6 Beginner Yoga Poses that Anyone can Master

Day 6 of my yoga tour. It feels great! Yoga has been refreshing for me and I absolutely enjoy every second of it.YogaQuotes-8_mfpcic

“Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.” -The Bhagavad Gita

The crazy thing is, I have never had a consistent plan. No idea why not since I’m such a fan. This is honestly the first time I’ve enjoyed a routine. I can already tell the difference from day 1. My breathing is more relaxed, I feel more comfortable and my stability is getting better with each pose. If you are just getting into yoga, working with the basics is best.

Beginner poses are easy to start with and will help you ease into longer workouts. Check out these 6 beginner yoga poses that you will soon master.

Mountain Pose
-Stand with your feet together, arms by your side. Inhale and raise your arms up above your head with your palms facing each other. Exhale as you lower your arms down by your side.

Mountain Pose stretches your body from head to toe to relieve stress and improve posture. The pose will strengthen the muscles in your legs and thighs and aid in steady breathing.

MountainPose

Tree Pose
Stand straight with your feet together and your hands by your side. Inhale and raise your hands above your head and press your palms together. Exhale and raise your right leg, placing your foot on your inner thigh. Hold for a few steady breathes. Repeat with your left leg.

This pose helps to stretch out your body and improve your stability, balance and overall flexibility.

Upward Facing Dog
Exhale as you lay flat on your stomach. Inhale and push your chest up with your hands and walk your hands backwards till your arms are perpendicular to the ground (if this feels uncomfortable, try the similar, Cobra Pose). Lift your stomach up and arch your back while keeping your legs and thighs on the ground. With your arms straight, look up towards to sky and hold with consistent and calm breathing.

The Upward Facing Dog and Cobra Pose improve upper body strength and relieving stress. These poses also stretch out your upper body to relieve tightness in your back.

Easy Pose
-Start in Staff Pose. Bend your legs in towards your torso and sit cross legged with your shoulders relaxed. Lift your arms and rest them on your knees with your palms facing up.

Easy pose helps to clear and free your mind and aid in relaxed breathing.

Child’s Pose
From standing, bend your legs and sit on your heels. Stretch your arms straight out and lean over your knees with you palms touching the ground. Relax and breathe steadily in this position for as long as you need.

This pose aids in relaxation and helps to stretch your back out. If you are ever feeling tired, take time to relax and get yourself into Child’s Pose.

Shavasana or Corpse Pose
Easily relax with this pose. Lay flat on your back with your legs separated. Let your feet and arms relax and fall open against the ground. Face your palms up. Steady your breathing as you lay relaxed and clear your mind. Stay a long as you need to.

Shavasana guides your mind into a relaxed state and encourages you to clear your mind. This pose helps to reduce blood pressure, fatigue and headaches.

These poses were a few of the first in my beginning sessions when I started my yoga tour and as a beginner. I never really knew much about yoga and I didn’t know what to expect or even if it really works but right off the bat you can tell these help to stretch your body out. It’s relaxing! Rather you are a beginner or you are more of a master at this art, these poses will be helpful and worthy of any yoga routine.

Little Free Pantry

Busy Day at the Coronado Little Free Pantry

Today has been a very busy day here at the 12185 Coronado Drive Pantry. We had two drop offs, both with amazing items. One of my favorite things about all this is to organize the donations that come in. If there are a lot of the same items I will put some out and put some away in a closet I have designated for the pantry supplies. Each day I walk out to the pantry with my boyfriend Bruce and clean up and restock if need be.

1.JPG

Our first donation today was by Vanessa, another pantry owner. She made a trip to the store and bought some extra stuff for us. So very sweet of her! Thanks Vanessa!!

20170202_155935.jpg

We put out some toothbrushes, soap, and feminine pads into the personal hygiene bin. This is the super fun part, stocking and filling the pantry with food for others to use when they need it.

A lovely mother and daughter came by before dinner time with a large box full of stuff. They were the second donation of the day. It was so nice to meet you, whoever you were. If you ever read this, know that I am truly thankful for your kindness!!!

17097278_642687459250321_3210557356384600944_o

They left us a lot of stuff. You can find canned vegetables, Asian and Oriental noodles, soup, jello, baking items, pasta, seasoning packets, salad dressing and a few other things.

This is all so amazing and it’s a joy to be a part of. Something to really think about, people who may not have had food, now do. This is a way for others to have support and extra food available to them at all times.

As I sign off here to go check the pantry… Someone may have dropped something off or took some things. I gotta go check. But first, this is what the pantry looked like just before dinner time after the second donation.

It’s packed!!! If you live in the area of Spring Hill, FL, please come visit and see what this pantry stuff is all about!

Easy DIY Banner for Your Office

Yesterday I mentioned in my post called Organized Space Increases Your Quality of Life, that I spent a few days cleaning my spare bedroom/office/scrapbook room. Well during that process I managed to find myself ‘organizing’ by using up some of my scrapbooking stuff to make small banners for my desk. Basically I kept taking breaks to be creative and use things around my office to help declutter, which in turn made some really cute stuff! One of my favorites is this Jamberry banner I made for my desk in my office. It is adorable!

diyyyyb
diyyy

I recycled the packaging from my Jamberry headbands to use for the background. It was the perfect shiny gray color that I was looking to match with my letters that I used. It is really easy to make and the possibilities are endless.

You can use any kind of letters that you want, whichever letters that you like best. For the first project, my letters happened to be thick cardstock/cardboard style cutout because I wanted dimension and texture.

diyyyyy
Thick cardstock letters came in 52pcs for $1.50 at Michaels.

If you only have flat letters that will work too, check out this one I did with black sparkle sticker letters, still really cool looking. See I told you, you can do anything with these. Here are some other ideas: a person’s name, a team, favorite band, holiday themed, special day/date. A whole lot of things you could do.

JamForceOneDIY.jpg
Black sparkle letters on the thin headband packaging.

What You Need:

*Letters   –   whichever works best for your project.
*Glue   –   Elmer’s or a hot glue gun.
*Cardstock   –   or scrapbook paper, recycled cardboard, something that will hold the letters well.

I gathered my letters and laid them out how I wanted them before I started gluing them down. Sometimes just going for it and winging it works and other times it doesn’t. This wasn’t a time I was willing to test that theory, so I planned the look and layout before I started gluing.

You could always lightly trace the letters with a pencil if you want the placement to be specific and accurate. I personally made mine jagged so they didn’t sit together perfectly and looked a little more choppy.

If your letters are stiff and you’re trying for the level look like mine has, I recommend not even trying it with a glue stick. It doesn’t work great. I mean you can try it if you want to… in fact, I bet there are some of you out there reading this right now saying, I bet I can make it work with a glue stick. *Long Chuckle* If you get it to work with a glue stick, great! Mine didn’t when I tried the first time – so I used a hot glue gun. I really didn’t want to at first and that’s why I used the glue stick since I was thinking I’d conserve my last glue gun stick because I’m cheap like that. It was all good at first, I was so happy with it and then I hit it. I can’t honestly tell you how but I did and of course, popped off some of the letters.

The glue stick was good for the trial and error and being able to share a tip from the experience but using the glue stick was a waste of time.

Here is my final project. Again you can make these into anything. Since it was a Jamberry package at first and our Brand Values at Jamberry include Be Creative, I thought I’d reuse them and make my own DIY Banners that incorporate Jamberry to keep in my office.

Crafts & DIY Projects, Organization

Organized Space Increases Your Quality of Life

Having a clean living space and an organized workspace will completely change your mindset and how you feel about getting things accomplished.

If your desktop on your computer has a ton of  pictures and files and programs covering it then good luck with it processing quickly – because it won’t. If you have so many things covering your workspace then how are you able to get anything done?

Clean your surface off whatever that may be and start with an open space, free of stuff. Throw some shit out. LOL! Yeah I said it & you know it needs to happen. I actually did it which make me realize how much crap I had. Before, I thought I was sure that I needed everything and the only issue I was dealing with was need more storage for organization. HAH! Wrong! I took my time going through and organizing everything and at the end, I tossed out two 13 gallon sized garbage bags. I had no idea! To think the things you accumulate over time.

I spent 3 days, a total of about 16 hours, cleaning my spare bedroom/office/scrapbooking space. It was horrific. I don’t have a fancy office (yet!) but it works. Now that I did a number on it, it’s a major difference. I’ve been making my own DIY storage by using cardboard boxes and unique ways to convert a blank space into an organized space.

organizedspacecollage
Left: My Jamberry starter kit turned into a brochure, card and envelope shelf. Above it is a shipping box turned into a file divider. Middle: Old shutters now hold postcards, pictures and things. Right: My Jamberry Conference swag box is now a corner bookcase and JamCon shrine.

As you can see from the pictures and caption, I did a few different things to convert the space to something useful and clean. It’s not cluttered and works well.

The crazy thing, after all that and by having an organized and clutter free space, it really does make all the difference. I immediately felt refreshed. It was exhausting but having the tables cleaned off and things put in their place, was amazing! I felt like I was instantly able to get things done and actually think without feeling overwhelmed and bogged down. Now I feel excited and energized and I’m more engaged. It’s a lot more inspiring than a pile of junk.

So… I want to share an organizational quote from an amazing lady! I think everyone needs to hear it, well read it and I think you’ll be surprised how honest it is.

wordswag_1488064165332.jpg
“Organization isn’t about perfection; it’s about efficiency, reducing stress and clutter, saving time and money and improving your overall quality of life.”    – Christina Scalise

Organized space increases your quality of life. I challenge you to test this out for yourself. Think of a mess you have. Maybe it is your office, your bedroom, the laundry, or even the desktop on your computer. Throw things out that you don’t need to keep. Anything you can let go of or get rid of will help you. Dwindle down your mess and organize your space and see what impact it makes on your mindset and your life. Then, report back here and share with us a mess you cleaned up and how it made you feel. Little steps to big things.
